Joognoo, meaning “firefly” in English, it serves as a profound metaphor for our project aimed at inspiring young women and men to create light in the dark. Just as fireflies illuminate the night sky with their radiant glow, we believe that every young person possesses the potential to shine brightly, regardless of their circumstances. Our mission is to harness the power of education and provide interest-free loans to the most deserving and talented students, igniting their paths to success.
Much like fireflies flickering together, our vision extends beyond individual success stories. We envision a network of young minds, united by the light they create, who understand the transformative power of education. Inspired by the firefly’s resilience and adaptability, we encourage our beneficiaries to become beacons of change, guiding others towards their own journeys of growth and development.
Our Core Principals
Education loans serve as a means to promote social solidarity, alleviate poverty, and foster economic empowerment.
- Loans to be Interest-free loan: The loan is provided without charging any interest or additional benefit from the borrower.
- Benevolence and generosity: Loan is viewed as an act of kindness and compassion towards others. We will willingly offer financial assistance to uplift the recipient without any expectation of material gain towards us.
- Repayment and responsibility: We trust in good faith at the borrower who will repay the loan when they are financially capable. It is our fundamental belief that our borrowers will take full responsibility to honor the commitments as outlined in the loan agreement.
- Sincerity and confidentiality: We the lender will keep your loan and related information confidential and we expect you to do the same in protecting confidential agreement between us.
- Preferences: Although, we do not discriminate any applicant on the basis of religion, race, ethnicity, color or social status but we do give priority to deserving female students and minorities.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for JOOGNOO Interest-Free Loan, a student must have:
- Secured an admission in a professional degree offered by a nationally recognized college/university.
- Loans are only provided for tertiary education in technical disciplines such as Medical, Engineering, Finance, Software Development, Nursing, ACCA, Business Management, Architecture, & Economics etc.
- Must maintain “A” Grade in 3 out of 4 semesters/quarters to continue to receive ongoing funding.
- Must demonstrate financial need eligibility by providing supporting documents.
- Must provide character certificate from the Principal or Vice Principal of the last institution attended.
- Must sign loan repayment agreement, witnessed and guaranteed by 2 references, older than 30 years of age.
- Demonstrate either past involvement in social change projects, extraordinary talent in non-academic activities or have plans to become a positive influencer in bringing social change in the lives of disadvantaged people and communities.
